5 things from Friday at the 2024 U.S. Open: Ludvig Aberg shining, Rory McIlroy talks margin of error

By Barry Lotz

PINEHURST, N.C. — On a day when the most decorated player of his generation failed to make the cut at the 2024 U.S. Open, the most decorated player of the year nearly suffered the same fate.

Tiger Woods hit the ball well and appeared spry, but failed to get his putter going when it counted and missed the cut at Pinehurst No. 2 on Friday. And Scottie Scheffler walked off defeated after his second round but was given new life after he struggled to a 74.

Meanwhile, a U.S. Open newbie navigated his way through the North Carolina minefield and holds the solo lead after 36 holes.

Ludvig Aberg’s one-stroke edge is among the five things to know after two rounds of play at the 2024 U.S. Open.
